About the Role

On behalf of a leading niche events and media group, we are looking for a sharp, adaptable Digital Channels Specialist & Journalist. We aren't looking for a "content robot"— we need a journalist who can think, write, and take full ownership of digital communication across a fast-moving B2B media ecosystem.

The client runs a lean, high-impact team overseeing major industry events, digital magazines, and high-frequency e-newsletters. This is a hybrid role for a go-getter who can blend professional journalism with technical digital management. You will receive mentorship and training, but you must bring the energy and initiative required to thrive in a professional media environment.

Writing Samples (1–2 examples of professional articles) with your Digital Portfolio (examples of social media posts, newsletters, or campaign reports you have managed) will be required with your application.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Journalism & Content: Write and edit high-quality articles and event coverage. You will interview industry professionals (CEO’s, Architects, Developers, etc.); zero spelling errors and a "no-fluff" approach are essential.
  • Digital Channel Ownership: Manage the day-to-day output for Meta platforms, newsletters, and the WordPress website. You’ll repurpose long-form content into punchy social posts and email snippets.
  • Campaign Support: Assist in executing and reporting on paid campaigns for sponsors and events. You will track basic engagement metrics (clicks, views, performance) to ensure accountability.
  • Event Coverage: Attend approximately 9 national industry events per year to capture stories, conduct on-the-go interviews, and represent the brand professionally.

Desired Experience & Qualification

The Ideal Candidate

Non-Negotiables:

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Journalism or Media Studies.
  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in journalism, PR, and digital content management.
  • Language: Fully Afrikaans and English bilingual with exceptional writing skills with perfect grammar (Afrikaans proficiency is a strong advantage as the environment is primarily Afrikaans).
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency in WordPress, Meta Business Suite, and Mailchimp.
  • Tools: Must own a reliable laptop, high-speed home internet, and a smartphone capable of high-quality content capture.
  • Mobility: Must have a valid SA driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle.

Highly Beneficial:

  • Design: Proficiency in Canva for creating banners and social assets.
  • Performance: Experience with boosted posts or supporting paid social campaigns.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the construction, architecture, or built environment sectors.

Package & Remuneration

Basic monthly salary plus commission based on performance.
