π° About the Role
We are looking for a LatAm Senior Reporter to launch and lead high-quality daily coverage across Spanish-speaking Latin American gambling markets.
You will be responsible for building and managing a source network across regulators, operators, suppliers, trade bodies, legal advisers, and analysts throughout key jurisdictions including Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Chile, and others.
You will file fast, accurate stories in Spanish while supporting short English-language briefs for the global desk when required.
The ideal candidate will bring strong editorial judgment, proven sourcing ability, and the confidence to land exclusives in a fragmented, regulatory-driven and politically nuanced environment.
As the lead journalist on the LatAm desk, you will shape editorial priorities, produce explainers and investigations, and supporting the growth of NEXT.ioβs Spanish-language readership and distribution.
Key Responsibilities
News coverage
- Report daily on regulation, enforcement, licensing, taxation, M&A, payments, market entries, and compliance developments across LatAm
- Cover both country-specific stories and region-wide trends
- File clean, timely copy in Spanish; produce concise English briefs for the global team when required
Editorial standards and analysis
- Produce explainers and analysis pieces (βwhat this meansβ, regulatory timelines, political risk breakdowns)
- Uphold integrity-first standards: right of reply, transparency, clear sourcing
- Apply strong editorial judgment when covering politically sensitive developments
Sourcing and exclusives
- Build and maintain a LatAm beat map with 30β50 priority sources across multiple jurisdictions
- Develop trusted relationships with regulators, policymakers, operators, lawyers, and consultants
- Land at least two exclusives per quarter
SEO and distribution
- Apply Spanish-language news SEO best practices (headlines, metadata, internal linking, taxonomy)
- Work with Marketing and Web to grow organic reach across the region
- Support newsletter and LinkedIn distribution strategies for the Spanish-speaking audience
Collaboration and mentorship
- Work closely with the News Editor, Head of Media, Research, and Events teams
- Support NEXT.io event coverage in the region with live reporting and post-event analysis
- Mentor junior reporters as the LatAm desk expands
Requirements
- Native-level Spanish writing and editing skills
- Professional working English for briefs and internal communication
- 3β5+ yearsβ reporting experience covering business, regulation, finance, or technology (iGaming experience essential)
- Proven ability to develop sources and land exclusives
- Strong understanding of LatAm political and regulatory environments
- Excellent headline writing and copy discipline
- High standards around accuracy, compliance, and editorial integrity
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with public records, regulatory filings, and court documentation in the region
- Experience analysing policy and tax frameworks
- Comfort appearing at events, on podcasts, panels, or live broadcasts
- Experience mentoring junior reporters
